ROOTED: What God Plants, the World Cannot Uproot

Colossians 2:6–7 | Jeremiah 17:7–8

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is, even as believers, to allow the noise of this world to influence what we believe, how we think, and where we stand. Sometimes it’s not an outright rejection of God’s Word. It’s the subtle compromises, the pressure to fit in, the fear of standing alone, or slowly allowing culture to speak louder than Scripture.

And it made me ask myself a serious question: Am I truly rooted in Christ, or have I allowed parts of my faith to become rooted in this world?

Because the world is relentless in its attempts to uproot what God has planted. Through deception, compromise, cultural pressure, and constantly shifting definitions of truth, the enemy works to weaken the very foundation that sustains us.

But here’s what we must understand: A faith deeply rooted in the unchanging Word of God cannot be uprooted simply because the world opposes it.

Paul commands believers to be rooted and built up in Christ (Colossians 2:7). The Greek word rhizoō means to cause to take root or become firmly established. This isn’t a shallow, emotional attachment to Christianity. It is a life established in the person and truth of Jesus Christ.

And our faith is not blind optimism. Christianity rests on historical claims: the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul understood that if Christ had not been raised, our faith would be worthless (1 Corinthians 15:14–17). Biblical faith does not fear examination because its foundation is truth, not cultural approval.

Jeremiah 17:7–8 describes the one who trusts in the Lord as a tree planted by water. When heat comes, its leaves remain green. Notice that Scripture never promises the absence of drought. It promises a sustaining source in the middle of it.

The world can shake our circumstances, challenge our convictions, and pressure us to compromise. But it cannot overturn the truth of God’s Word.

The question isn’t whether the world will try to uproot us. The question is how deeply we are rooted in Christ.

Stop letting a changing culture determine what only an unchanging God has the authority to define.

Be planted by the Maker. Rooted in Christ. Grounded in Scripture. Unmoved by the world.

Father, deepen our roots in Your Word. Give us discernment to recognize deception, courage to stand on truth, and faith that remains steadfast when the world pushes against us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
