🔥 FUEL: Born of God, Built to Love

1 John 5:1

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.”
— 1 John 5:1

There is something powerful packed into this verse: faith in Jesus changes more than what we believe—it changes who we are and how we love.

John connects three things that we sometimes separate:

Believing. Belonging. Loving.

When you truly believe Jesus is the Christ—the Messiah, Savior, and King—you have been born of God. You aren’t simply trying to become a better version of yourself. God has given you new life.

John uses the Greek word γεγέννηται (gegennētai), from gennaō, meaning to be born, begotten, or brought forth. The tense carries the idea of something that has happened with continuing results.

You have been born of God—and that new birth is meant to keep showing up in the way you live.

That includes the way you love people.

And that’s where this verse gets uncomfortable.

John essentially says: If you love the Father, you will love His children too.

Not just the easy ones.

Not just the people who agree with you.

Not just the people who encourage you, understand you, or treat you the way you think they should.

Jesus changes our heart posture toward people.

Sometimes we want the fire of God without the refining of God. We want deeper worship, stronger faith, answered prayer, and more of His presence—but God keeps bringing us back to love.

Because holy fire doesn’t only burn upward in worship.

It burns outward in love.

Jesus said:

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” — John 13:35

Love becomes evidence that something has happened inside us.

🔥 F — Focus Your Eyes on Jesus

Our faith begins with Jesus.

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ…”

Before focusing on someone’s flaws, failures, attitude, politics, personality, or what they did to us, look at Jesus.

He loved us when we were difficult to love.

“We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

The more clearly we see His love for us, the harder it becomes to justify withholding love from everyone else.

Focus on Jesus until His heart begins reshaping yours.

🙌 U — Unload Your Burdens to Him

Sometimes what keeps us from loving isn’t hatred. It’s hurt.

Resentment.

Disappointment.

Offense.

Unforgiveness.

Old wounds we keep carrying into new conversations.

Jesus never asks us to pretend those things didn’t hurt. He invites us to bring them to Him.

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Unload the offense.

Unload the bitterness.

Unload your need to prove you were right.

Unload the expectation that someone else has to change before your heart can be free.

Give Jesus what is poisoning your love.

✨ E — Encounter Jesus Daily

We cannot manufacture Christlike love through sheer willpower.

We need Jesus.

Jesus said:

“Abide in me, and I in you.” — John 15:4

Stay close to Him.

Sit in His Word.

Talk with Him.

Listen.

Worship.

Let the Holy Spirit expose the places in your heart that don’t look like Jesus yet.

The closer we walk with Christ, the more His character begins showing through us.

Encounter Jesus until loving like Jesus becomes the overflow of being with Jesus.

🔥 L — Live on Fire for the Lord

Being on fire for God is more than emotional worship.

It’s loving when love costs something.

Forgiving when your flesh wants to keep score.

Showing grace when you could retaliate.

Praying for someone instead of talking about them.

Serving without needing recognition.

Choosing Jesus’ way when your feelings are screaming for your own.

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly.” — 1 Peter 4:8

A life on fire for Jesus should leave behind the unmistakable warmth of His love.

🔥 FUEL CHECK

Ask yourself:

Does the way I love people give evidence that I have been born of God?

Is there someone I have mentally decided is no longer worthy of love?

Am I asking God to change someone else while He is trying to change my heart posture?

Today, don’t just ask:

“Lord, increase my faith.”

Pray:

“Jesus, let my faith become visible in my love. Burn away bitterness, pride, offense, and selfishness. Teach me to love Your children because I love You. Keep my eyes on You, my burdens at Your feet, my heart close to Your presence, and my life burning with the kind of holy fire that looks like Jesus. Amen.”

Believe in Jesus.
Know that you belong to the Father.
Then let His love pour through you.
